McFarland State Bank named one of Wisconsin’s top small businesses The bank was chosen by a panel of judges coordinated by the UW Oshkosh School of Business for its rapid growth over several years, which McFarland State Bank achieved by focusing its efforts on business expansions and real estate development while, at the same time, serving as McFarland’s community bank.

“McFarland State Bank experienced fast but solid financial growth over two years,” said Burk Tower, Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at UW Oshkosh. “They’ve managed to strike a healthy balance between large companies and local customers – without sacrificing service and quality. Even today, the bank continues to be an integral part of the economic growth of the McFarland community.”

“We’ve worked hard to build our capacity to serve business and help entrepreneurs think outside the box as they borrow money for their projects,” said McFarland State Bank President David Locke. “Our best marketing comes from the word of mouth referrals of our current clients. Businesses know we’re an excellent partner and word gets around.”

The award is co-sponsored by the College of Business, Associated Bank and Corporate Report Wisconsin. It was awarded to businesses in nine categories statewide.

Locke said an example of his bank’s “partnership” with growing businesses is Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. which became a publicly traded company in December 2004. “We provided the original organizers of Great Wolf with their first hotel loan about twelve years ago and…we’ve been partners with them ever since.”
